Types of Car Delivery

While there are a number of types of car delivery companies, there are a limited number of options for the types of auto transport that are used to actually ship vehicles from one location to another.
OPEN CAR DELIVERY TRUCKS
Open car delivery trucks are the most frequently seen method of shipping cars from one location to another. Using an open transport truck is a great way to move your auto in a cost-effective way across long distances.
This is not, however, the recommended way of moving a classic or luxury car, as the car or other vehicle being shipped is exposed to the elements during its travels. As careful as your professional car delivery company might be, if you ship your auto using an open transport truck, you should use extra care when inspecting it for scratches, chips and dents when it reaches its destination.
CLOSED CAR DELIVERY TRUCKS
If your car delivery company will be transporting a classic or luxury car, or if you are concerned about your car being exposed to the elements during its transit, then using an enclosed transport is the best idea. Because the car is completely covered and stored inside a closed trailer, it is not exposed to the elements in the same way as a car being transported using an open transport truck. This lessens the chance of damage from environmental concerns, while protecting your investment and giving you additional peace of mind regarding the safety of your vehicle as it makes its journey.
Using a closed transport truck with your car delivery company of choice is a more expensive option than the open transport truck, but especially for those cars which are regarded more as luxury or investment items, the additional cost is well worth it. Both open and closed transport trucks make for ideal transport options if your car is making a long land journey.
It is important to realize that the trip will take quite a lot of time, as your car must be physically moved from one location to another, and you should always get a firm commitment (in writing) from your car delivery provider which specifies when you can expect your vehicle’s delivery at its destination point.
If you are shipping your car or other vehicle overseas, you will need to look at options for transport including sea transport (by ship). This can add considerable time and expense to your car’s journey, but as certain foreign cars are not available in the US (or you might want to take your American car with you if you are moving to another country), it is an important option to have. Keep in mind that when shipping a car overseas you must anticipate additional expenses for customs and import situations – be sure to research these and to ask your car delivery company about whether they offer these types of transport.
These are just a few types of car delivery which can be used when moving your car from one location to another. For a series of free quotes from auto shippers in your area, you can fill out the form below for information!
